Job Title: PAYMENTS Product Owner
About the Job you are considering:
As Product Owner for regulated payment schemes (CHAPS, SEPA, FPS, BACS), you will be responsible for defining and delivering product capabilities that enable secure, compliant, and efficient processing of domestic and cross-border payments. You will lead the product strategy and roadmap for payment orchestration, scheme integration, and transaction lifecycle management, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and business objectives.
Hybrid working:
The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
Your Role:
Product Strategy & Ownership
• Define and own the product vision and roadmap for CHAPS, SEPA, FPS, and BACS payment flows.
• Translate regulatory and business requirements into actionable product features.
• Align product goals with enterprise architecture and Payment Acceptance strategy.
Backlog Management & Delivery
• Prioritise and manage the product backlog across multiple agile delivery teams.
• Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria for payment scheme integrations, transaction processing, and exception handling.
• Drive sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release coordination.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Compliance, Operations, Engineering, Treasury, and Risk.
• Engage with external scheme operators, clearing houses, and banking partners to ensure seamless integration and compliance.
• Communicate product progress, risks, and dependencies to senior leadership.
Domain Expertise
• Develop deep understanding of payment scheme rules, settlement cycles, and message formats (e.g., ISO 20022).
• Monitor regulatory changes and industry developments affecting domestic and cross-border payments.
• Ensure product compliance with FCA, PSD2, SWIFT, and scheme-specific mandates.
Operational Resilience & Risk
• Champion reliability, traceability, and exception management in payment processing.
• Support incident response and root cause analysis for payment failures or delays.
• Continuously improve payment routing logic, reconciliation, and reporting capabilities.
Your Skills:
You should have experience with
• Proven experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager in payments, banking, or financial technology.
• Strong understanding of CHAPS, SEPA, FPS, and BACS schemes and their operational requirements.
• Experience working in agile environments with cross-functional delivery teams.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with similar enterprise orchestration platforms.
