The Agile Research Delivery Team (ARDT) is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Data Manager to support our innovative and mobile research team. Working across Secondary Care, Primary Care, and Wider Care settings, you will play a key role in supporting the data management of a diverse portfolio of Commercial and Non-Commercial research studies and clinical trials across South East Regional Research Delivery Network.
You’ll work as part of a flexible, multidisciplinary team, supporting the set up and data management of studies across multiple organisations and care environments, helping to make high quality research accessible to patients and participants across the region.
The post is hosted by Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, with an operational base in Guildford. This area forms one of three sub-regions within the South East Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN).

Main duties of the job

This role will be responsible for the collection and quality of data relating to those participating in health and care research. 

The post holder will support members of the Agile Research Delivery Team in the collection, transfer and entry of data relating to research activities undertaken. 

The post holder will act as a point of contact for all data related queries liaising with a variety of stakeholders throughout the life cycle of a research study.

They will assist the research delivery team in all aspects of participant record maintenance and will be experienced in the use of Local Project Management Systems (LPMS).

The post holder will process data associated with out of hospital research activity and Service Support Costs (SSCs) and work with other RRDN departments to ensure cost effective use of NHS resources.

They will provide administrative and data link/support to the RRDN Study Support Service for primary and community care research portfolio. 

They will upload, monitor and maintain accurate patient recruitment records in the local LPMS database.  The postholder will be accountable to the Agile Research Delivery Nurse/ CRP/ AHP/ Facilitator.

The postholder will also form key relationships with other RRDN core teams including the Workforce and People Team study sponsors, Contract Research Organisations (CROs), GP practices, community, public health and social care organisations and trust Research and Development (R&D) teams.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

From October 2024, the NIHR Clinical Research Network became the NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN). 

The RDN continues to support the effective and efficient initiation and delivery of funded research across the health and care system in England for the benefit of patients, the health and care system and the economy, with a name that better reflects the scope and purpose of the network to support:
● Clinical trials and other well-designed health and social care research studies (including studies that are delivered outside of an NHS setting);
● Public health studies that require the recruitment of individuals within an NHS setting (that is, acute, ambulance, mental health, community or primary care) or an episode Version control July 2025 V1.0
of care which involves contact with the NHS.

The whole of England is supported through 12 NIHR Regional Research Delivery Networks (RRDNs). These work with the national Coordinating Centre to provide a joint RDN leadership function so that the NIHR RDN as a whole functions as a single organisation with a shared vision and purpose across England. Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is the Host Organisation for the South East RRDN region.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to A level or equivalent
  • NVQ3/foundation degree in a Healthcare related subject or working towards

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of the governance and legislative framework for conducting clinical research studies, including ICH Good Clinical Practice
  • Knowledge of trust policy regarding Data Protection – Caldicott Guidelines, Data Protection Act
  • Ability to accurately transfer data from one medium to another (using paper based and electronic data capture)
  • Previous experience of data management
  • Good IT skills, particularly in the use of Web applications, MS Office and/or Google Hub applications
