The London Boroughs of Richmond upon Thames and Wandsworth presents a unique opportunity to be part of a welcoming, multi-disciplinary Public Health Division with a strong culture of supporting staff development.

We are recruiting a highly motivated, outcome-focused, and enthusiastic individual to join our team to achieve the best health outcomes for our residents of Richmond and Wandsworth. This is a permanent Public Health Lead role in the Adults and Older People, Prevention and Healthcare Public Health’s Team. You will develop and coordinate public health programmes that promote healthy eating, nutrition, healthy weight, and prevention of long-term conditions. The role ensures evidence-based interventions are implemented to improve population health outcomes and reduce health inequalities across a diverse population of more than half a million people in South- West London.

About the role 

The ideal candidate will have excellent relationship building and influencing skills, developing evidence based actions, be comfortable working with external and internal partners/stakeholders, and be passionate about improving outcomes for different communities. 

We are looking for someone:

  • Who has relevant public health experience and is comfortable leading on various public health programmes undertaking health needs assessments, planning, evaluation, supporting and developing plans and strategies, managing projects, and writing and presenting quality reports and briefings to various audiences and supporting your line manager.
  • Who can apply their specialist knowledge and skills to work across healthy weight, nutrition and long-term condition programmes.
  • Who will provide health improvement advice, expertise and support working with a range of partner organisations, professionals and the public
  • Who is comfortable working in a fast-paced team and multi-agency programmes, policies and initiatives
  • Who is experienced in data analysis and evidence-based approaches to inform decisions and improve health outcomes
  • Understand governance process, reports and monitoring performance 
  • Who is keen to learn, develop and gain new experiences.
  • Who will embrace diversity and be able to work and influence people from all walks of life.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice and policy, health promotion, health care evaluation including undertaking literature reviews and critically assess evidence. 
  • Substantial experience in public health or health-related posts, with proven ability to manage projects and influence stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of health improvement, health eating, nutrition, healthy weight, impact of lifestyle and behaviours
  • Understanding of social and political environment, including national and local policy, strategies, and guidance. 
  • Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
  • Higher degree or postgraduate qualification in public health /course relevant to public health or equivalent knowledge gained through /post-graduate training.
